Symptoms of Herpes
If you are concerned that you or someone you have been with sexually may be showing signs of having vaginal herpes but are not quite sure what the symptoms are and what to expect here is a guide of the most common symptoms of herpes.
Genital herpes is spread from close physical contact with another individual who has the herpes virus generally during sexual intercourse without the use of a condom. If you have been with someone who has herpes you may see symptoms as soon as a couple of days after intercourse up to three weeks after intercourse. Your first herpes outbreak is likely to be the worst one you will ever have. There are however many who do not claim to experience anything and do not realize they even have herpes.
Symptoms of herpes include sores around the vaginal area and can be included on the thighs, anus and urethra. Many women mistake these for type of infection or boil. It is imperative that you call your doctor if you notice these so you can be tested properly. Other symptoms include headaches, aching muscles, running a fever, back pain specifically in the lower back, and red, sore skin in the genital area. Women can also experience itching, vaginal burning or a burning when they have to urinate. Some may have more complicated symptoms of herpes such as meningitis.
If you have been with someone that you suspect has herpes and you did not use a condom you should always contact your doctor to get tested. It is important that you are honest with your doctor that you suspect you are showing symptoms of herpes because it can sometimes be misdiagnosed as a yeast infection or pelvic inflammatory disease. It is important to not that even if the person you have had sex with is not showing any direct signs of having herpes that they can still spread it to you. It is always important to practice safe sex and use a condom every time to prevent the chances of catching herpes.
There is no cure for herpes at the present time. There are special medications you can take if you are diagnosed with herpes that can ease the symptoms. Be sure to talk to your doctor about these options to see if they are right for you.
